What
we do
SongMakers supports music education through a suite of programs for young creatives and teachers across the country.
We match young people with Australia’s top songwriters and producers who work as mentors to create and record original songs in an intensive workshop environment.
Flagship 2-day in-school workshop:
- under subsidy from APRA AMCOS. The fee balance for government schools is $550 incl GST.
What happens at a workshop?
Day 1
Students work in groups of 4 with our industry professional mentors to write a song each from scratch. They perform this song at the end of the day, ready for Day 2!
Day 2
Working to a tight deadline, students record their song with our mentors to be played back during a listening party at the end of the day.

SongMakers is unique in its provision of school-based, real world learning as an entry point to an industry that has few formal pathways for career commencement and advancement.
SongMakers is also an important part of Australia’s industry development ecosystem because it encourages a stronger culture of creating original songs, collaboratively.
