Tasmania’s Department of Education is working with us on an expanded trial of the new SongMakers model this year, across five regions in that State.
Each region will nominate a hub school that will host a workshop for students from its own and neighbouring schools. This is a great way of helping make stronger connections for schools, teachers and students in each region. Plus it’s real world: writers get put together with people they don’t know and have to work against the clock to come up with a song. They start the day as strangers and end as a team of co-creators.
The hub schools for the trial are Claremont College, Hobart; Launceston College, St Mary’s High, New Norfolk High & Don College.
The trial also includes two teacher masterclasses on music industry skills and pathways, to be held at MONA and Launceston College.
