When creating music with technology, having a safe and efficient computer setup helps prevent strain, keeps your gear working properly, and allows you to focus on making great music.

Here’s what you need to know:

1. Ergonomics
Stay Comfortable While You Create

Screen Position

Place your screen at eye level. Use a laptop stand if needed.

Chair & Posture

Sit in a chair with good back support and keep your feet flat on the floor.

Wrist & Hand Placement

Keep wrists straight when using a mouse, or typing.

2. Keep Your Gear Safe & Organised

Manage Cables

Keep audio interfaces, MIDI controllers, leads, and power cords organised to prevent tripping hazards and accidental disconnections.

3. Protect Your Eyes

Reduce Screen Glare

Adjust brightness and use “night mode” or blue light filters for long sessions.

Look away

Follow the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds to rest your eyes.

4. Take breaks

  • Take short breaks every 20 -30 minutes
  • Take longer breaks every hour. Stand up, stretch, and move around.
