Three SongMakers mentors will work with 16 students over two full school days.
Day 1 – Songwriting: Students work in 4 groups of 4 with our industry professional mentors to write a song each from scratch. They’ll perform this song at the end of the day, ready for Day 2!
Day 2 – Recording: Working to a tight deadline, students record their songs with our mentors. Two groups record with a mentor each, while the remaining join an industry chat with the third mentor, then they’ll switch. All groups rejoin to listen to their final demos at the end of the day.
*Due to time constraints, we cannot record live drums.
No, not at all! SongMakers can bring in all the recording gear required. We just need schools to supply instruments & four separate spaces. The spaces must be available for the full two days.
Within the four spaces, we’ll need:
1 x larger classroom space (comfortably fits 20 people)
3 x break-out writing spaces (comfortably fits 5/6 people).
Ideally these spaces will be soundproof enough for the groups of four students to be able to concentrate on writing.
Usually at a SongMakers workshop the expectation is that the participants will work with people they don’t usually write or perform with.
The workshop mirrors a real-world co-writing session and encourages participants to expand their approach to songwriting, build additional working relationships with peers and grow collaboration skills.
While we understand the desire to write together as a band, we encourage the young people to think about it as all members learning different skills that they can then bring to their songwriting.
YES!! We love seeing the songs created at SongMakers shared far and wide, please make sure you obtain permission for all the songwriters before doing so.
If you are releasing the recording/demo from the workshop, please credit the producer on the demo as: “Produced by SongMakers”.
