We’re thrilled once again to be working alongside JMC to inspire and skill-up the next generation of Australian hit-makers. Under our special partnership, all SongMakers students are eligible to apply for one of three, fully-paid, exclusive JMC/ APRA AMCOS scholarships in the Diploma of Music (Songwriting) course.

These can be taken up at JMC’s Brisbane, Melbourne or Sydney campuses. Each of these scholarships is valued at $16,000 with students having the option to apply for a scholarship extension into the Bachelor Degree (a further $32,000 value) on successful completion of their Diploma.

One of last year’s winners, Marnie Purssell, had done a SongMakers workshop at her school on QLD’s Sunshine Coast, Mountain Creek State School, before winning the Brisbane scholarship. She’s never looked back:

I’ve taken so much out of it so far, in all my subjects. I’m starting to steer in the direction I want to be as an artist and I find I’m now much more constructive when I approach a new song. I think much more about what could make it more effective. I’ve just finished second trimester and have been really busy with juggling three bands, which has been really great. I got to work with new people from different years on campus.

My advice to anyone thinking about going after the scholarship is ‘definitely go for it!’ Choose your best material, record it as best you can and send it in. I had a lot of doubts myself about entering last year but you’ve got to just go for it. I’m getting so much out of it now.

The scholarship scheme is great recognition of the talent being uncovered through SongMakers and is an opportunity open to any student to have completed our program since it began in late 2013.

Entries close 15 December 2017 for the 2018 Academic Year.
