New! What does a producer do?
After a big two days on SongMakers at Bellarine Secondary College, mentors Grant Windsor and Robert Conley talk us through what the what, how and why of being a writer/producer.
About Grant Windsor: Grant Windsor is a multi-instrumentalist, performer, writer and producer. He’s a former APRA AMCOS Professional Development Award winner and has had stints living in NY and London, where he worked with Jamie Cullum, Carole King and the BBC Orchestra, among others. Since his return to Australia he has been working with Guy Sebastian, Pete Murray and many other Australian artists.
About Robert Conley: Robert is one of Australia’s most in-demand songwriter/ producers. Early in his career, while working as assistant engineer on ‘KISS Alive III’ in LA, Robert so impressed Grammy award-winning producer, Walter Afanasieff, that he was hired on the spot. That set him on a path to work on artists including Destiny’s Child, Christina Aguilera, Carlos Santana and many more. Now living in Sydney, Robert has his own publishing company and record label, Specific Music. He’s even signed a SongMakers student, Taka Perry, to his label.

Are you a new songwriter or producer?
As soon as you create a piece of music you (and your co-writers, if you have collaborated) have copyright in it. Find out what that means.
If your music gets performed – by you or someone else – it can make you money.
